The Department of Chemistry, Narasinha Dutt College and the three Academies of Sciences namely Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore, Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi and The National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad jointly organised a two day lecture workshop titled ‘Spectroscopic Methods in Chemistry’ on 23rd and 24th February, 2015 at Sarat Sadan auditorium, Howrah. The Workshop was principally aimed at creating an excitement for the undergraduate students in the basic understanding of spectroscopy as well as its applications in modern chemical sciences. The Programme was attended by near about 150 Students and teachers from various Colleges and Institutes in and around the district of Howrah. Internationally acknowledged scientists and science educators namely Prof. Uday Maitra and Prof. P. K. Das, IISc, Bangalore, Prof. Tanmaya Pathak, IIT Kharagpur, Prof. Chaitali Mukhopadhyay, University of Calcutta, Dr. Tapan K. Paine, IACS, Kolkata and Dr. Subhajit Bandyopadhyay from IISER, Kolkata, conducted the workshop and delivered lectures.
Department of Mathematics organised the Second Convocation ceremony for Post graduate section of the department on 16th May, 2015. Dr. Palash Baran Paul of Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, was the chief guest of the Programme and delivered his lecture on the topic ‘Mathematization of Physics’. Mrs. Harshamanjari Nanda, Senior Programme Co-ordinator, Childline India Foundation, delivered a lecture on ‘Domestic Violence Act 2005 and the Relevant Sections of IPC dealing with sexual and other harassment on Women’ on January 16, 2016. Dr. Suman Malik, Radiation Oncologist of Narayana Superspeciality Hospital spoke on ‘General Awareness on Cancer’ on Nov. 18, 2015. Dr. Arunava Roy, Gynaecologist of Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, delivered a lecture on ‘Awareness on Cervical Cancer ‘ on January 20, 2016. Dr. Ramdas Chatterjee of K. K. Chatterjee Memorial Association, Kolkata, spoke on ‘Awareness on Oral Health’ on March 17, 2016. Dr. Amitabha Nandi, Director, Centre for Tropical Medicine and Parasitology, delivered a lecture on ‘Combating Dengue and Malaria” on February 10, 2016. The lecture was organized by the NSS Wing of the college. Prof. Sujato Bhadra, an eminent Human Rights activist, was the chief speaker in the Celebration of Human Rights Day, Dec. 10, 2015. Pravrajika Bhaswaraprana Mataji delivered her lecture on ‘Value Education’ on Feb. 26.2016. The college has been allotted a UGC grant for holding a national seminar on the cultural heritage of Bengal to be held in Nov/Dec 2016.
