About the Department

The Sanskrit department of Narasinha Dutt College is very old. Most probably it was established on 1941. At first Sanskrit was taught in this college as a general subject. Gradually the Honours course was introduced and many students got the opportunity to study Sanskrit as an Honours subject.

A number of eminent teachers have taught in this department in the past.The department is very proud to mention the name of Late Prof.Karunasindhu Das, the ex-vice-chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University,who taught in the Sanskrit department of this college for a certain period of time. Dr. Amit Bhattacharya, the Associate Professor of this department, joined as a professorof University of Calcutta in 2015. The library has a collection of books and publications authored by him.

The department, at present,has two whole time teachers, one part time teacher and two guest lecturers. The student-teacher relation is very good. The teachers work hard to fulfil the need of the students.

Past Events

Two parent-teachers’ meetings of the 1st year students were held in the academic sessions of 2013-14 and 2015-16
Remedial classes were taken for the back-ward students of the 1st year in the academic session 2014-15.
One students’ seminar was organised by the department on 28.01.2016
One educational tour was arranged in Asiatic Society on 19.02.2016
Two special lectures were delivered on 22.02.2016
The students of Department of Sanskrit celebrated the teachers’ Day on 5th September 2019. They gave a warm welcome to the teachers and arranged a beautiful cultural programme on behalf of them.
