Department of Physics

Narasinha Dutt College

About the Department

The department of Physics has been an integral part of the college right from its inception in the year 1924. However, at the time, the department offered only a pass course in Physics. The department started offering an honours course from the mid-sixties.
Throughout its long history, the department has nurtured generations of students, many of whom have gone on to make significant contributions in academia, industry, and research institutions worldwide. It has continuously evolved with advancements in science, updating its curriculum and laboratories to reflect modern developments in physics while preserving its strong foundational teaching traditions.

Dedicated to undergraduate teaching, the department emphasizes strong conceptual understanding, practical laboratory skills, and analytical thinking. Generations of students have benefited from the guidance of experienced faculty members who are committed to nurturing curiosity and scientific temper. Equipped with well-maintained laboratories, experienced faculty, and a commitment to research and critical inquiry, the department fosters both theoretical understanding and practical skills. Its enduring legacy reflects not only its academic achievements but also its dedication to inspiring young and a passion for discovery among students.
