The Department began in 1941 and is known for its multidisciplinary approach to the subject. Alumni of this department are well known economists and the department encourages students to enter higher academics and also work in the private sector. The department has a rich history of conducting seminars and the faculty are engaged in research.

Webinar on ‘Covid – 19 and Changing Global Economic Order ‘ was organised by the department of Economics, in collaboration with IQAC of the college, on 8th June 2020.

Students ‘ Seminar (webinar) on ‘Contemporary Issues of Indian Economy ‘ was organised by the department of Economics on 20th July, 2021 and 23rd July, 2021.

First volume of the departmental magazine of the department of Economics, ‘Economic Outlook : An Enquiry into Indian Economic Issues’, was published in October 2021.

Parent – Teachers meeting of Economics department, held on 13th May, 2022.

Seminar Lecture organized on 13.11.2019. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Sudeshna Ghosh of Scottish Church College. The topic of the lecture was “Rural Development in the Perspective of Indian Economy”. It was a curriculum oriented lecture to compliment the skill enhancement course on Rural Development.
