History

The College Library of Narasinha Dutt College has a long history since 1924 when it was initiated in an old college building of room number-1. At the initial stage the library was enriched with a small amount of books and other documents received from the personal collection... At the later stage, it was shifted at the 3rd floor of West Building during the period of 1976-77. At that time, the library collected some new books at its own side. Then, during the period of 1998-99. At last, finally it was shifted at its present place i.e. 1st floor of New Building.

The founder of this institution is Late Suranjan Dutt who's father Late Narasinha Dutt was a beloved person of Isaac Raphael Belilios, a Venetian Jew born in Calcutta, dominated the cattle trade in Singapore from 1887 to 1921. Several streets in Howrah are named after I.R. Belilios, including Belilious Road, Belilious Lane. Belilious Road was originally a private access road to his property. Read more...
