I welcome you all to the oldest college in the district of Howrah and the biggest college of West Bengal. Our college is like a happy home for all our six thousand students in the three sections – Morning, Day and Evening. Our college stands in a beautifully maintained campus of 2.8 acres, with four blocks of building, a garden, a playground and a pond. The whole environment is quiet and soothing, ideally suited for the green undergraduate years.
Affiliated to the university of Calcutta, our college runs 16 Hons. courses in arts/ science /commerce. These apart there are 19 general courses to cover a wide range of curricula. We are proud of acknowledge the good services of 78 full-time and 38 part-time teachers. We equally acknowledge all round support of 49 non-teaching staff members. The partially computerized college library and the book bank cater to the weeds of our students, teachers and staff-members in a big way. Our college office has been thoroughly computerized to handle all academic and administrative matters more efficiently. An exclusive extension branch of a nationalized bank is going to function shortly to further discipline matters relating to monetary transactions. Common rooms for boys and girls, cheap store, cheap canteen, computer center, spacious cycle stand, aqua guards for safe drinking water, beautiful illumination of the college campus during the evening hours etc. are some other salient features of our college. We are also proud of having our NCC unit, St. John Ambulance brigade and Nursing Division, health center and personal counseling hall. The governance of the college is wholly democratic and as per the directives of the university statutes and the state government. The governing body with its finance and developmental committees ably supervise all financial and developmental activities. The academic sub-committee actively functions in all academic matters. The teacher's council operates in its statutory advisory capacity to lend valuable support to the college administration as a whole. The democratically elected student's union also plays an active role in the smooth running of the college and in various other programs in the college.
Our college has earned good reputation as a leading college in the district. Our students fare very well in the university examinations, occupying ranks in the merit list. In games and sports, social awareness/welfare programs, cultural activities, our students have regularly earned laurels. Many of our students proceed towards further studies and good jobs. We have a placement and counseling cell to help our students in the job market.
We are on the road to progress; so many things are still to be done. We are confident, but not complacent. We believe in growth and progress, but not in a random or lopsided manner; we respect basic human values and we are conscious of our duties and responsibilities. I once again welcome all young and aspiring learners to be a part of the reputation of this college. Let us strive together because together we can.
Thanking you,
Principal |
